ReSource has the ability to rate shipments via FedEx International Ground. Because of limitations on the FedEx side, does not add the ability to produce a label or documentation. The program will not produce a Tracking Number and label. The shipment will need to be completed separately and manually through the FedEx Website or by using a manual waybill. Like any other International shipment, there may be additional documentation requirements such as Commercial Invoices that are required to complete the shipment and clear it through Customs. These must be competed manually as well.
IMPORTANT: This option is significantly different from some of the other International options. FedEx requires that you collect the required Brokerage fees for Customs Clearance at the same time as the freight charges are collected. Those fees will be part of your FedEx bill.
From the FedEx Service Guide:
Clearance Entry Fee
When a shipment is processed as a brokerage-inclusive shipment and FedEx Ground arranges for clearance services, a clearance entry fee is charged to cover processes required to check the Commercial Invoice submitted with the shipment and complete entry preparation procedures required by either U.S. Customs and Border Protection or the Canada Border Services Agency, including calculation of applicable duties and taxes for each type of commodity included in the shipment. The clearance entry fee is subject to all applicable Canadian taxes.
These fees are calculated based on the Customs Value of the Shipment in Canadian dollars, which means currency exchange rates will affect the amounts you need to collect and what appears on your bill. Canadian taxes will vary based on the destination province are also included in the fee charged. The extra steps needed are described later in this document.
These fees can add significantly to the Retail price you need to collect to recover your costs, so the Rate Shopper screen may appear to be pricing Ground International improperly; however these fees are added to the amount displayed.
When you start a shipment to a Canadian Destination, the Rate Shopper screen will show ”r;Need Value” for this option.
You must click the button to continue to the Customs Value Entry screen.
You cannot get a total shipment rate without entering Customs Value and Exchange Rate first.
Enter the value, in either US Dollars or Canadian Dollars in the fields provided, and the exchange rate to use on this system. Calculation of the currency exchange rate in effect on the date of shipment is not automatic – you must determine this and manually input the desired rate.
ReSource does not recommend any particular website, however if you have a preference we have made it possible to launch that page from this form.
You can use any common web site to lookup the exchange rate in effect on the date of shipment. Examples are xe.com or Google's http://www.google.com/finance/converter. ReSource does not recommend any particular web site to determine the currency exchange rate. However, if you have a preference we have made it possible to launch that page from this form. Click the Lookup Exchange button, and you will be prompted to enter the URL for the web site you wish to use. This will be saved for future use.
Clicking Done on the Enter Customs Value form will return you to the shipping screen.
If you need to adjust the Customs Value, you can clear the Clearance Entry Fee Special on the Specials screen and then re-select it to display and edit and the amounts entered previously.
If you ever want to change the Exchange Rate Web site you use, right-click on the Lookup Exchange button, then enter a new web site address.
Long Topic; More Information Below....
Once the Customs Value and Exchange Rate Percentage are entered, the Clearance Entrance Fee is calculated and added to the shipping rate.
This fee is for the FedEx customs brokerage service provided by FedEx. It is added to the shipment rate and is collected by you from the shipper at the time of shipment.
The Clearance Entry Fee Amount is included in the Rate Shopper price. In this example it appears that FedEx Is significantly more than UPS; however the Clearance Entry Fee is more than three times the Freight price. If you right-click the bracket cost display the Freight Cost Details screen includes the amounts used in Canadian dollars and the Exchange rate entered.
When viewing a package in the Package Information screen, right-clicking the list of Specials will also show the Breakdown for the Clearance Entry Fee in Canadian Dollars.
Just like for most other international shipping, you will be required to complete the Commodity Entry Form prior to receiving a label. This is discussed in detail in the Commodity Entry topic
This form is only required if the shipper is trying to claim NAFTA status to eliminate the duties and taxes associated with the shipment. It should not be required for all IG shipments from US to Canada. Contact the carrier. For FedEx International Ground Shipments to Canada, the Required for NAFTA Shipments section will appear, in addition to the other Commodity information as shown above. Please complete this section for FedEx International Ground shipments.
