Credit Card Integration & Processing

The ReSource Partner system supports direct credit card processing integration through two methods:

You can also use other solutions for credit card approval, though the process is not completely automated.  The two types of processing solutions, described as integrated and non-integrated, are discussed below.

The benefit of using an integrated processing solution is that you enter the customer's credit card information once, thereby reducing potential data entry errors.

Credit Card Integration setup information is configured in Store Information - General Tab

Integrated Processing

Merchant Warehouse - Genius

ReSource offers integration with the Merchant Warehouse Genius device.  Each POS in your store will have a cooresponding Genius device.  There is no software installed on your POS systems.  This eliminates the continuing need to update your POS systems.

The Genius processing terminal is an internet-connected swiping pinpad device.  Since the Genius device resides on your network and your front counter, it requires a network connection at each POS station where you will be using the device.  This can be with either an additional wall jack, or a network switch.

Transactions are started on your POS, then finished on that stations Genius processing device.

Integrating with the Merchant Warehouse Genius Customer Engagement Device (hereafter referred to as the CED) is quick and easy.

Merchant Warehouse will assist you with getting your CED installed on your network. After the initial hardware is complete, you will be ready to configure the ReSource software to use it.

You will need the following pieces of information, which should be supplied to you by Merchant Warehouse:

IC Verify

IC Verify is a software product that is installed on your Server, only.  It conducts credit card transaction approval requests using your Internet connection.  The IC Verify product must be purchased and configured separately from ReSource.  Once installed and configured, the ReSource program is then setup to send approval requests.

ReSource transfers a request for approval from the POS to the IC Verify software.  IC Verify, in turns, communicates with your processor to obtain an approval number.  The process is then reversed; the processor sends an approval to IC Verify, then IC Verify returns an approval to ReSource.  Once an approval is received, the sale is then completed.  The system prints a receipt for customer signature, then another receipt that the customer can retain.

Customers using a credit card swipe wedge or keyboard can automatically capture swiped data.  Information can also be manually entered at time of sale.  Information on supported swipe hardware and required swipe programming formats can be obtained from ReSource Customer Service.

Non-Integrated Processing

Customers using external approval solutions do not receive an approval as part of sale processing.  The sale is recorded in ReSource, and the approval is received using an external device or third-party web based solution.  As such, users can configure the ReSource Partner system to capture as much or as little information about credit card sales as is desired.  These settings are configured at the Store Information | General Tab.

Process A Credit Card Sale At The Point Of Sale

The following procedure assumes that integration is configured, including capture of CVV2 codes.

Click The Credit Card Button At The POS:

Add all desired items to the sale, then click the Credit Card button as mode of payment.

Amount Tendered:

When you click on the Credit Card button, the Tendered Amount Window will appear.  If you accept Credit Card sales only for the amount of the transaction, just hit enter.

You can turn off the ability for clerks to accept Credit Card sales in excess of amount due at the Advanced POS Preferences tab

Enter Customer Credit Card Information:

You can enter the customer's credit card information via a swiping device, or via manual entry.

  • Swipe the credit card, then click Apply (or hit Enter)

  • Manually type the customer information, hitting enter between each field.  Click Apply when finished.

Receiving An Approval - Integrated

ReSource sends a request to your processor, via the IC Verify software.  When an approval is received, the sale is finalized and a receipt prints.

For customers using integration, the sale will be recorded by credit card type.  This information will show on the Z-Tape, and on various reports.  The customer's credit card information is not retained.

Receiving An Approval - Non Integrated

If configured to do so, the ReSource system will prompt you to enter the approval code received from your external device.

Manual Approval - All Users

The Manual Approval button bypasses any integration or approval attempts.

IMPORTANT.  It is only provided for users to record a sale simply as a credit card sale.  It assumes that you have already approved the sale via other means.  No attempt to validate a credit card occurs when the Manual Approval button is used.  Therefore, its use is not ever recommended except in very unusual circumstances.

The Manual Approval button puts the risk on you to assure that the customer's credit card information is valid.

Approved Processors/Supported Processing Platforms

Data transmission formats vary widely by bank processor.  Currently, IC Verify users can choose between four supported processing platforms, i.e. processors with which ReSource has conducted extensive testing on their formats.  Customers may use other bank processors in conjunction with IC Verify and ReSource processing integration, but the results are not assured.

Changing Bank Processors is never something to be done without extensive research and pre-planning.  It is often a tedious task reconfiguring IC Verify to communicate with a new processor.
