This section discusses tools available with your ReSource software to simplify the data protection process, as well as options available to you for backup.

Who is responsible for data protection?

The answer is You.

It is the store owner’s responsibility to see that the data for his/her store is protected. ReSource provides tools to make it easier to accomplish this important task, but it is your responsibility to use these tools. There are 2 parts to effective data backup: creating the backup, and copying to the backup to a secure off-site location. Creating the backup will make a file that contains all the vital information in your software. However, this file is not immune to corruption or loss. The next step is to move that file from the computer and to a secure off-site location. This can be as simple as copying the file to a Zip disc or CD-ROM, emailing it to another location, copying it to another computer, or making use of a remote data backup service.

How do I protect my data?

ReSource created the Copy Utility to duplicate your ReSource data onto a second spot on your Local C: drive, then again to a destination that you choose.

It compresses your data set into one easily managable and portable file.

The Copy Utility is designed to run upon first startup in the morning.  You can also run it any time via START | All Programs | ReSource | Copy Utility

Next, you need to more this file to an Off-Site Backup. you need to decide which of the primary options, or a combination of those options, you will use to back up your data off-site. There are three primary options for this:

  • Copying files to another system on the network or another area on the hard drive.

  • Off Site Storage via Internet.

  • Copying the files to a CD or other external media, which is stored off site.

Often more than one option is used to ensure that recovery is possible should fire, theft, water damage, hardware failure or file corruption (just to name a few scenarios) happen to your store.

Note: Once this backup is created with these utilities, it is the owner's responsibility to further protect their data by maintaining an off-site backup program themselves. If ReSource is asked to assist in restoring data, and the hard drive is damaged or the files on it are corrupted, then it is the store owner's responsibility to provide ReSource with a readable copy of the data. As stated in your license agreement, the store owner is responsible for making sure off-site data is updated, on readable media, and stored in a safe location. ReSource does have some tools available to our technical support team that can possibly "step back" to some internal files on the computer if there is data corruption, but these files should not be considered the store's only data copy.

RESOURCE INC., DOES NOT WARRANT THAT THE FILE COPY FUNCTIONS CONTAINED IN THE RESOURCE SYSTEM OR THE MS-WINDOWS COPY PROCESS WILL MEET YOUR REQUIREMENTS OR THAT THE OPERATION OF THE SOFTWARE OR SERVICES WILL BE UNINTERRUPTED OR ERROR-FREE.   You assume responsibility for the selection of the Software and Services to achieve your intended results; and for the installation, use and results obtained.
